Representing the private business community, KCCI plays the role of intermediary to resolve the difference of interests between the private and public sectors. To fulfill its role, KCCI reviews legislative bills and government policies with the interests of the business community in mind, gathers private-sector opinions and presents the government with effective policy alternatives.
Also, KCCI makes efforts to participate in the process of government's policy formulation so that policy directives head towards the right direction. To this end, KCCI officers and experts serve as members to many of special advisory committees established by the government, delivering the private sector's opinions to the government on issues of concern.
These representatives serve as a point of reference for the government when questions of economic import arise.


As the economy grows and its industry structure becomes more complicated, more of conflicting interests prevail in all fields of the economy.
In this regard, one of KCCI's major functions is (a) to collectively coordinate the differences into one, and at the same time, (b) to contribute to the promotion of Korea's whole commerce and industry and the development of the national economy.
As its membership consists of all lines of business in Korea, KCCI is in a position to collect and harmonize opinions of all participants involved.
In consideration of the above-mentioned nature, KCCI tries (a) to accommodate the varying positions born from the different interests of big businesses and SMEs, and also (b) to adjust and harmonize the differences in the perspective of the national economy.


To actively engage in the era of Digital Economy, KCCI operates KORCHAM.NET(http://www.Korcham.net) to link together all regional chambers in Korea and also foreign chambers in the whole world.
Through KORCHAMNET, KCCI now provides business portal service that ranges from networking all nation-wide chambers and assisting member companies' efforts to set up their own websites, to establishing a business community among the member companies.
Also, KCCI is exerting efforts to provide information service, by establishing e-business infrastructure for its member companies including business information service known as KorChamBiz(www.korchambiz.net) and electronic brochure service known as KorEan(www.koreannet.or.kr).


Research, focused on pinpointing the difficulties members are facing and working out strategies for overcoming them, is an essential part of the KCCI's activities.
KCCI provides a wide range of economic information to assist Korean companies in coping with the rapid changes in the economic environment and in improving their performance.
As part of the efforts to create valuable economic information, KCCI is engaged in research activities on major issue that affect all industries. Major fields of study include domestic economic policies & trends, finance & taxation, international economic trends, customs, and import-export related issues.
Furthermore, KCCI is engaged in research activities focusing on SMEs, energy, SOC, labor, IT, environment, distribution, logistics, and so on.
The outcome of these researches is provided to the member companies as reference materials, and also to the government for basic data in mapping out the policy directives.


Along with research activities, KCCI also hosts conferences, seminars and other meetings that cover various fields for its members. Moreover, KCCI organizes roundtable meetings by inviting government officials and experts, so that there exists a channel for the businessmen to relay their opinions to the government on the spot.


The Human Resources Development Office (HRD Office) of KCCI is a well-recognized leading organization for HRD in the Korean industries since its establishment in 1994, and it has promoted its 8 Human Resources Development Institutes under HRD Office to foster the most capable and high-qualified industrial workers equipped with skills and knowledge as well as spirit of challenges and creativeness.
The HRD Office dedicates itself to providing world class vocational and technical workforce with practice- and field-oriented education and training in accordance with the industrial demands, principally through a system of institutional education and training, thereby making higher quality technical education and competency development available to all those aspiring to life-long learning and to improve their skills, productivity, and life regardless of educational background, gender or race.


As computer technology develops at a rapid speed, traditional office skills also have been changing innovatively. Computer skills including word-processing have become a requisite for those who want to enhance their work skills.
In this regard, KCCI operates the Vocational Qualification Center, to administer testing of state-level certificate such as word-processing and computer skills on behalf of the government and further testing of eleven professional work-skills including electronic commerce administrator and sales administrator. The ultimate objective of these tests is to bring out high-quality workforce and enhance industry competitiveness.
In future, KCCI plans to introduce official qualifications test for web designer, OA technician, electronic publication technician and multimedia expert, to cope with the changes in the economic environment.


KCCI provides a management counseling service for the members who wish to obtain or enhance their understanding on working-level knowledge and information on the issues of corporate management.
Experts from all fields including international trade, customs, industrial properties, taxation, accounting, industrial property rights provide a one-on-one counseling and propose solutions to the member companies on issues that trouble them. Besides the counseling for businessmen, they also provide support for those who want to start businesses.


Information only has value if people know how to find it and put it to use.
KCCI operates its Internet Homepage(http://www.korcham.net) to assist its member companies in accessing economic and business information, and to provide specific corporate information for those in need.
In the meantime, KCCI's library is open for its members. The library contains some 15,000 domestic and international publications including those issued by KCCI.
